The Three Best Materials for King Alternative Down Comforters

Down is famously one of the best materials for making soft, warm comforters. Unfortunately, for many reasons, down is one of the absolute worst materials to use for those with allergies. Not only is it possible to be allergic to the feathers themselves, but it's also very easy for down to become infested with dust mites, which are one of the most prevalent allergies currently afflicting the allergen-sensitive population today. Not all is lost, however, as manufacturers are starting to make king alternative down comforters for those in this unfortunate situation. If you decide to buy one of these alternatives, you'll typically have three possible materials to choose from, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages.

The most common material for making king alternative down comforters is some form of synthetic polyester. The quality of this material has significantly improved in recent years, and many of the better kinds easily rival down for warmth and comfort. This type of alternative comforter has no feathers and is often made to be actively dust mite resistant.

The next material you may encounter in your search for king alternative down comforters is silk. Silk has the advantage of being extremely lightweight, and it's also naturally resistant to dust mites. You can be certain of being comfortable if you buy a silk comforter, but you can also be fairly certain of paying a somewhat high price tag for it.

Finally, you'll also find plenty of king alternative down comforters in cotton. Cotton is extremely breathable, but it's also rather heavy in comparison to either silk or synthetic materials. Its breathability makes it great in the summer, but it's somewhat less good for staying warm in the winter. For a truly warm king alternative down comforter, you would be better off choosing one of the other two materials.

Synthetic polyester, silk, and cotton all have their own strengths and weaknesses. You just have to choose the material for your king alternative down comforter based on what is most important to you and what you're willing to pay.
